Locals have been inspired after the Charters Towers Regional Council announced on their Facebook page the completion of two shade structures on Towers Hill Lookout.

“If you go up the Hill today, you’re sure of a big surprise,” the social media post stated earlier this month.

“Contractors have been busy erecting two shade structures over the picnic tables at the lookout and we think they look great.”

Founder of the Charters Towers newspaper, Sumpton’s Gold Rush Gazette and former owner of the Charters Towers Literature Hub Daniel Sumpton said the new shade has inspired him to read more.

“I picked up many books over the Christmas season and have desperately wanted to find a nice place to read them,” he said.

“I think the new shade structures at the Towers Hill Lookout are perfect and I will be reading there frequently.

“People who know me from back when I ran the Charters Towers Literature Hub’s physical location have told me they will be doing the same.

“Everyone who has been looking to read more should make it a New Year’s resolution to head up to the hill and crack open a book.”
