The Charters Towers Excelsior Library is celebrating Halloween with an educational twist.

Library Coordinator, Lia Gladman said the library has chosen a special book to link their Halloween celebrations to.

“Every year the library celebrates Halloween and each year we attempt to link it to a book and aim it at a different audience,” she said.

“We chose Harry Potter as it is less threatening than Steven King (IT from past years) and appeals to a wide range of ages.”

Mrs Gladman said a lot of effort goes into decorating the Charters Towers library.

“The whole team contributed to decorating our space and we all enjoy seeing our patrons' reaction to our work,” she said.

“Our library customers often comment that as Australians we don’t celebrate Halloween, “It’s an American thing” but its origins come from Celtic Festivals where people would wear costumes and light bonfires to ward off ghosts.”
