Preserving History about Veterans in Charters Towers

Locals and tourists can view the newly refurbished World War 1 Field Guns in Lissner Park, now under a revamped shade structure.

The refurbishment was completed through funding from the Australian Government’s ‘Saluting Their Service Commemorations’ Program.

Charters Towers Mayor Frank Beveridge praised the refurbishment of the World War 1 Field Guns as a worthy project.

“Preserving history about veterans and their historic achievements is vital for the commemoration, education, collective memory, and inspiration for the town,” he said.

“It ensures the sacrifices and contributions of veterans are remembered and valued, and also serving as a foundation for building a better future.”

Mr Beveridge also said the Field Guns were placed in an ideal spot.

“Lissner Park is a living testament to the past,” he said.

“It's enabling the present and future generations to connect with the history, get knowledge, and appreciate the cultural and natural heritage of the area.”
