The Charters Towers Regional Council set off a fireworks display at Towers Hill on New Year’s Eve to positive reactions.

Local photographer Sandra Thorpe said she enjoyed seeing the huge turnout in people at the bottom of Towers Hill to see the fireworks.

"The long stretch of vehicles up and down the roads around Towers Hill was amazing,” she said.

The renowned local photographer also said she loved the process of taking photos of the New Year’s Eve fireworks and editing them when she got home.

"I love looking through my photos when I get home and seeing how they turned out,” she said.

“It's like watching the fireworks over again and being able to take in the beauty on pause.”

The Charters Towers Regional Council posted a fireworks reminder on New Year’s Eve on their official Facebook page at 5pm.

Access to Towers Hill was closed at 8pm and the official New Year’s Eve fireworks were set off at 8:30pm.
